The SpinoMed TLSO provides stabilization of the spine following vertebral compression fractures secondary to osteoporosis. Utilizing the brace activates the back muscles to strengthen them and reduce kyphosis. This in turn reduces pain, promotes activity and increases balance.
The Spinomed TLSO has also been indicated for patients with Parkinson’s as a rehabilitation tool to reduce postural kyphosis. When used in conjunction with physical therapy the brace realigns the spine to a normal alignment strengthening the core muscles and improving balance.
The Spinomed IV posture brace is used as an effective treatment for osteoporosis resulting in an increased curvature of the thoracic spine region. The back brace is in contact with a large section of the spine. This allows a distribution of pressure over a large area. The adjustable strapping in the hip area stabilises the lumbar spine. In the shoulder area, the shoulders are held back by the tension of the straps. The chest muscles are extended and the extensor muscles of the back are strengthened.
Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis, also known as bone loss, affects 1 in 4 Americans over the age of 50, and is one of the ten most common diseases. Characterized by brittle bones, bent posture and decreasing height, this metabolic disease destroys more bone mass than is being replaced. Bones become porous and lose substance and strength, progressing unnoticed overtime. By 2020, half of Americans over 50 will be at risk for developing bone loss. Bone fractures, like a vertebral fracture, often occur out of the blue.
Vertebral Compression Fractures
There are over 700,000 fractures per year in the United States
People who suffer one fracture are five times more likely to suffer another one
People who suffer two fractures are 12 times more likely to suffer another fracture
Each fracture reduces lung capacity by 9 percent
Fractures result in disability, diminished quality of life and immobility
